Sulema Guerrero Abete, a loving and caring individual, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Brownsville, Texas. Born on November 28, 1932, in Los Indios, Texas, Sulema lived a vibrant life that brought joy to those around her. She will be remembered for her loving, lively, and spontaneous personality, which made her truly one of a kind.
Sulema is survived by her four beloved children: Antonio Abete Jr. (Leticia), Ana Maria Hammar (Jack†), Arnoldo Abete, and Amanda Ann Torres (Rey). She found great happiness in her role as a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Roberto Abete (April), Xeno Garcia, Reynaldo Torres (Amanda Grace), John Hammar (Ashley), Robert Hammar, and Rhianha Salazar (Ivan). Sulema also is survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Aren Garcia, Ivan Jonathan Salazar, Nolan Lee Hammar, Avanni Ann Salazar, Wyatt William Hammar, Amelia Grace Torres, and Matthew Rey Salazar. Sulema's family was her greatest treasure, and her love for them was boundless.
Sulema was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Antonio Abete, her mother: Delfina G. Guerrero, her brother: Arnoldo Guerrero and her son-in-law: John Lee Hammar.
In her leisure time, Sulema enjoyed fishing, dancing, and visiting the casino, creating lasting memories with her family. Her ability to embrace life with joy and enthusiasm will resonate with everyone who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to honor Sulema's memory during the visitation and prayer service at Trevino Funeral Home-Old Port Isabel Rd. in Brownsville, Texas. The visitation will take place on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The following day, Saturday, September 13, 2025, visitation will resume from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., with a Chapel Service at 9:00 a.m. Her final resting place will be at Buena Vista Burial Park in Brownsville, with the burial scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The family would like to extend a big Thank You to SafeHaven Hospice, Constable Merced Burnias Pct. 4 and Jose Ricardo Escamilla Mendiola (Las Cazuelas de REM) for being of service during this difficult time.
