Sgt. Leonel Torres, 49, passed away on Monday, July 29,2013 in Marana, Arizona.
Leonel graduated from Pace High School in 1982 and immediately joined the United States Army. After serving two years, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. He was awarded Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Meritorious Mast in B Company 1st light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. Upon completion of services, he then married Margarita in 1990 and became a proud father to his only child, Deborah.
After years of exploring various career opportunities, he returned to his passion for the military by reenlisting into the Army Reserve. He then became fulltime active duty for the Army Guard Reserve as a mechanic in the maintenance motor pool. During this time, he was stationed with the 812th Company in Harlingen then the 370th Company in Brownsville. Within this time, he completed a tour in Iraq from 2009 through 2010. His final deployment was to Marana, Arizona where he served as Sergeant for the 418th Company.
Leonel will be remembered as a loyal, humble and hardworking man. Although he was separated from his family, he remained a loving husband, thoughtful father and faithful provider. His smile and laughter will surely be missed. He will always be remembered as a hero.
He is survived by wife of 24 years Margie TorresDaughter Debbie Torresparents Guadalupe Maria Torres 3 brothers, Ernesto Torres,Rey Torres Noel Torres 2 sisters Linda Saldivar Lupita Ahumada numerous nieces nephews.
VISITATION: 9am9pm Thursday, August 8, 2013 with prayer service at 7pm Trevino Funeral Home,1355 Old Port Isabel Road.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11am Friday August 9, 2013 in the North Chapel of Trevino Funeral Home.
BURIAL: will follow to Buena Vista Burial Park with full Military Honors.
