Sarah Janette Rookstool born to Douglas Earl Brooks and Mary Squiers Brooks on March 4, 1933 in Springville, PA went to the Lord on July 4th, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.
Jan as she was called came into the world a brunette but found red was her color. She became know as the lady with the bright red hair. She married her high school sweetheart on July 12, 1951. Francis Rookstool became her husband and best friend whom she left behind along with two brothers William wife, Wanda Brooks, Walter wife, Gail Brooks and five children Jack wife, Susie Rookstool, Michael wife Martha Rookstool, Terry husband, Brian Irving, Brian wife, Criselda Rookstool, and Bruce wife, Ana Rookstool. She leaves 20 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
In Pennsylvania, when Jan would arrive at most places that had music she would be asked to sing. She had the voice of an angel. She continued her love for music by joining the Camille Lighter Playhouse when she arrived in the Valley in 1979.
Aside from her love of music, Jan lived a great life and wore many different hats; she was a worker in a dress factory, choir Director for the church, a doll doctor, a customized drapery maker, and interior decorator for Sears Roebuck, a waitress, an owner of a bar and restraunt called Sky View Inn in Factoryville, PA, an instructional aide, and a special education Clerk at Hanna High School. In 1988 she received her BA in Early Childhood and Special Education. This was not the end for Jans education. She went on to get certified to teach the visually impaired students and did this until she retired from B.I.S.D. in the year 2000.
At the time of her death she was enjoying her retirement with her husband and best friend for 57 years. She will be greatly missed by family and friends but never forgotten and always and forever in our hearts.
Her family would like to thank the staff at South Texas Rehabilitation Hospital and Valley Regional Medical Center emergency room and ICU Doctors, nurses and staff also the Great EMS personal of Brownsville for all they did for our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

The family will be welcoming all friends and family at their home at 602 Cheyenne Ct. in Brownsville, TX on the 7th of July from 2 to 8 p.m.
