Roberto Hinojosa

Roberto Hinojosa Sr., 65, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, from cancer at his, Brownsville, Texas residence with his family by his side.

Roberto was born October 19, 1956, in Brownsville, Tx. to Andres Hinojosa and Maria Francisca Hinojosa. Roberto served as a U.S. Marine from 1974-1978 and then continued his education at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, graduating with a Degree in History (cum laude). Roberto worked as an Academic Advisor at Texas Southmost College and then as a teacher with the Brownsville Independent School District for more than 30 years. He retired in the year of 2018. In 2009, Roberto was in Glynco, Georgia where he was in training to become a U. S. Customs Agent. After that he continued to teach at Progresso Independent School District until his retirement.

In 1972, Roberto met Graciela Rodriguez at Brownsville High School and later married in 1974.  They were blessed with 3 children:  Roberto (Monette) Hinojosa Jr., Ismael Hinojosa, and Gracie Marie (Chris) Craft. Also to treasure many memories are five grandchildren:  Amanda, Andrea, River, Lyra, and Scarlet; three brothers, Andres Hinojosa, Genaro Hinojosa, Richard Hinojosa; a sister, Alma Gloria Buitron and half-sister Maria Luisa Hinojosa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andres Hinojosa Sr., his mother, Maria Francisca Hinojosa and Frank Klick; sister, Norma Linda Champion; half-brother, Nicolas Hinojosa, and cousin Tomas A. Olivarez.

Roberto was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time eating out together with his family, had a passion for working-out, and loved watching movies.

His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he inspired and interacted with, as well as those he reached but never met.

Memorial Service will be held at Treviño Funeral Home in Brownsville, Tx. on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 10:00am-12:00pm with a service at 11:00 am. We will continue on to Rio Grande Valley State Veterans’ Cemetery, located at 2520 S. Inspiration Rd. in Mission, TX 78572, for the Funeral Service at 2:00pm.
