Robert Ernest Chapa passed away quietly in his home on Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Brownsville, Texas, at 10:38 a.m. He was seventy-four years old.
Robert, wounded Vietnam Veteran in the Army, was one among the many whose wounds affected the course of his entire life. He was born and grew up in Refugio, Texas. He attended school there and helped in his family’s store. He lived in Houston, Bryan and for the last forty seven years in Brownsville. He was a kind, generous man, always putting the needs of others first. In Brownsville, Mr. Chapa worked at Marathon LeTourneau, then attended the Texas Southmost College nursing program. He worked at area hospitals, nursing homes and for several agencies. He was the youngest son of Luis Chapa and Serafina Chapa Treviño, who preceded him in death as did his siblings; Luis Chapa, Evangeline Chapa Astorga and Oscar Chapa. He is survived by his spouse and partner for many years Larry Amadore; his nephew Jesse Astorga (Eva) of Tucson, Arizona; his niece, Marisa Astorga Cinquepalmi (Vito) of Bloomingdale, Illinois and by his son; David Garza and family (as well as by his adored pets Chiquito and Tiny), relatives and friends in the Valley, Refugio, Corpus area, Houston, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Mexico. He is and will always be lovingly remembered and grievously missed.
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 9 p.m. (family) and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. (public) on Friday, August 19, 2022 with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars 7:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of Treviño Funeral Home.
