Reyes G. Martinez

Reyes G. Martinez, a loving and caring individual whose spirit brought joy to many, passed away on May 26, 2025, in Brownsville, Texas, at the age of 86. He was born on August 7, 1938, in San Benito, Texas. Reyes was well-known for his outgoing personality, sense of humor, and profound love for his family.

Reyes's life was filled with memorable experiences and cherished relationships. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his personality, including traveling, playing the guitar, and the thrill of visiting casinos. He had a fondness for western movies and loved taking long drives while singing along to his favorite songs. He loved spending time with his family more than anything else and was always eager to share a friendly joke or a laugh.

He is survived by his sisters, Carolina Granado and Maria Alicia Martinez, as well as his dearest children: Reyes (Zita) Martinez Jr., Rene (Teri†) Martinez, Sor Clara (Jose†) Sanchez, Maria Alicia Martinez, Rudy (Laura Lopez) Martinez, and Raul (Karla) Martinez. Reyes was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 9 great-grandchildren.

Reyes is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Isabel Martinez, and his parents, Reyes Martinez and Leonor Guerra. He is also preceded by eight siblings, grandson (Joe Rey Martinez), daughter-in-law (Teri Martinez), and son-in-law (Jose A. Sanchez).

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring the memory of Reyes. Visitation services will be held at Trevino Funeral Home-Old Port Isabel Rd., in Brownsville, Texas. Visitation hours are scheduled for Friday, June 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 8:15 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a chapel service from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM. A burial service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Brownsville.
