Ramiro Cortez Sr. age of 79 of Brownsville, Tx entered into eternal rest on Monday November 8, 2021 surrounded by his family. Ramiro was born February 6, 1942. He was a lifelong resident of Brownsville, Tx.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Oralia G. Cortez and loving family; his children Minerva Bernal (Alfredo), Ramiro Cortez Jr. (Lupita), Jose Martin Cortez (Linda), Sulema Cortez; sisters Lucila Munoz, Irma Lozano and brother Juan Cortez. Also, surviving 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Ramiro was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Maria Cortez; his children Arturo Cortez and Beatriz C. Garcia; his sisters Herlinda C. Gonzalez, Lupita Lopez and brothers Jimmy Cortez, Jaime Cortez and Tomas Cortez
He dedicated his life to his family and was a loving man with a big heart. He was avid sports fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He started his career as a painter for many years and continued as a truck driver for Valley Trucking traveling throughout the country.
He was a legendary conjunto drummer who recorded many albums with artist such as Agustin Gallardo, Freddie Gomez, Juan Tovar and Gilberto Perez. He was a recipient of an award from The South Texas Conjunto Association in recognition for dedication, support and help in preserving conjunto music. His legend will live forever.
Visitations will be 12 p.m.-9 p.m. on Monday November 15, 2021 at Trevino Funeral Home (Old Port Isabel) with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday November 16, 2021 8:15 a.m. -1:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ The King Church at 2 p.m. Rite of committal will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens
