Oscar Omar
Trevino
1953 — 2026
Oscar Omar Treviño, age 73, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, Texas, went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2026.
Oscar was born in Brownsville, Texas, to Joe I. Treviño and Irma G. Treviño. A man of many interests and talents, Oscar had a lifelong love of animals, which led him to pursue veterinary medicine in Mexico, where he earned the title of Médico Veterinario Zootecnista (MVZ). He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Brownsville and obtained his teaching certification, reflecting his continued dedication to education and learning throughout his life.
Oscar was also a licensed funeral director and embalmer and worked alongside his mother and father at the funeral home, in the family's businesses throughout the years, including Treviño Delta Funeral Home, Treviño Funeral Home, and Garza Memorial Funeral Home. Working alongside his parents was an important chapter in Oscar's life and connected him to his family’s dedication to serving families in the Brownsville community during some of their most difficult times.
Oscar was gifted with an affinity toward technology and possessed a natural ability to understand how things worked. He spent some years serving as a Technology Resource Teacher at Gonzalez Elementary. In that role, he wore many hats. He taught students how to use computers and technology, managed the school's computer networks, and regularly troubleshot, repaired, and upgraded computer equipment. His knowledge and ability to fix just about anything made him a valuable resource to the students and staff he served. Most recently, Oscar continued his work in education as a highly sought-after substitute teacher for the Brownsville Independent School District.
Away from work, Oscar's interests were just as varied. He enjoyed restoring old cars and especially loved making them go fast. He also loved hunting, fishing, building powerful computers, and taking on the challenge of repairing anything that was broken. Whether working on a computer, a car, or another project, Oscar enjoyed understanding how things worked and finding a way to make them work better.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Joe I. Treviño and Irma G. Treviño. He is survived by his brother, Roberto "Beto" (Dolores)Treviño, his sisters, Sandra "Sandy" Suffel and Gloria (Joseph) Dávila, his niece Jaclyn Suffel, and his nephew Jaden Dávila. Along with family members and friends who will remember the many interests, talents, and experiences that made Oscar uniquely himself.
Oscar's life was marked by a curious mind, many talents, a love for animals and technology, and a remarkable ability to work with his hands. From serving families alongside his parents, to educating young people, to restoring a car or repairing something others might have given up on, Oscar brought his knowledge and abilities to everything he did. His memory will live on through his family, the students and colleagues whose lives he touched, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing him.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services at this time. In honor of Oscar's lifelong love and compassion for animals, those wishing to make a memorial contribution in his memory are invited to donate to the Brownsville Animal Regulation & Care Center (BARCC). In this way, Oscar's love for animals can continue by helping provide care and comfort to animals in need.
