Oralia G. Cortez

Oralia G. Cortez, a beloved resident of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on March 11, 1942, in Brownsville, she touched the lives of many during her lifetime with her caring, loving, and often funny and silly personality.

Oralia dedicated over 30 years of her life to her role as Housekeeper Supervisor at Valley Regional, where she exemplified hard work and compassionate leadership.

Oralia was a member of the Altar Society and served her church at Christ the King for many years, who she loved and enjoyed doing very much.

Oralia found joy in various hobbies and interests; she loved playing loteria, dancing, listening to music and enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play with the whole family. Her passion for cleaning and caring for her plants reflected her nurturing spirit and made her home a warm and welcoming place.

In her personal life, Oralia cherished her family and was a devoted mother to her children: Minerva (Alfredo) Bernal, Ramiro Cortez Jr., Jose Martin (Linda) Cortez, and Sulema Cortez. She celebrated her role as a grandmother to 15 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 27 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to 3 great-great-grandchildren, nurturing and guiding them with love throughout their lives. Oralia is also survived by her loving sister, Olivia Lara.

The love of her life, her husband, Ramiro G. Cortez, predeceased her, along with her son Arturo Cortez, daughter Beatriz Cortez, her parents Jose Angel Gonzalez and Anastasia Sanchez Gonzalez, and her siblings: brothers Raul Gonzalez and Ramiro Gonzalez, and sisters Herminia Garza, Aurora Campbell, and Maria Guadalupe Garcia.

Visitation services will be held at Trevino Funeral Home, located at 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX, on Monday, December 8, 2025. Friends and family can gather from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service commencing at 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., leading into a Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Following the Mass, Oralia will be laid to rest at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m.

May Oralia rest in eternal peace, treasured forever by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Oralia también deja en vida a su querida hermana, Olivia Lara.

El amor de su vida, su esposo, Ramiro G. Cortez, falleció antes que ella, junto con su hijo Arturo Cortez, su hija Beatriz Cortez, sus padres José Ángel González y Anastasia Sánchez González, y sus hermanos: los hermanos Raúl González y Ramiro González, y las hermanas Herminia Garza, Aurora Campbell y María Guadalupe García.

El servicio de velatorio se celebrará en la funeraria Treviño, situada en 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd, Brownsville, TX, el lunes 8 de diciembre de 2025. Amigos y familiares pueden reunirse de 2:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m., con un servicio de oración que comenzará a las 7:00 p.m. Una segunda velatoria tendrá lugar el martes 9 de diciembre de 2025, de 8:15 a.m. a 9:30 a.m., que precederá a una misa en la Iglesia Católica Cristo Rey a las 10:00 a.m. Tras la misa, Oralia será enterrada en los Jardines Conmemorativos Rose Lawn a las 11:00 a.m.
