Modesto De La Cruz, 80, entered into eternal life on April 21, 2008 with his wife and his daughter, Adela by his side at Valley Baptist Hospital He was born on February 24, 1928 in San Benito, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He lived and worked in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, California, Florida, Houston and Brownsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro De La Cruz and Pascuala Leanos, brother, Pedro De La Cruz, Jr., and a sister, Emilia De La Cruz.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maria Eliza De La Cruz, children, Cristina Eldelmiro Castillo, z, Juan ElvaDe La Cruz, Eliza Garza, , Modesto De La Cruz, Jr., Pedro De La Cruz, Benjamin Rosa MariaDe La Cruz, Dora Elia Julian Cadena, Rosalinda Jose Olivares all of Houston and Adela Gabriel Gutierrez and Elodia De La Cruz both of Brownsville, siblings, Crispin De La Cruz, Maria Miguel Ramos, Petra Roberto Serrato, Juan Emilia De La Cruz, Mario Juana De La Cruz, Jose Esther De La Cruz, and Vidal De Cruz, 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
We would like to give special thanks to the nurses and CNAs of Valley Baptist Hospital and a very special thanks to the doctors Luis Robles, Jairo Rodriguez, Ammar Halloum and Stanley Sy for their excellent care. We would also like to give special thanks to all the staff of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for their special attention they provided us the last three years.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Juan Mauricio De La Cruz, Gabriel Gutierrez, Jr., Jose Olivarez, Jr., Eldelmiro Castillo, Jr., Javier Garza, Pedro De La Cruz, Jr., and Roel De La Cruz.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 with a recitation of the holy rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
