Maria Guadalupe “Lupita” Gomez Castillo, a daughter, a loving wife, a mother, a Veteran’s wife, a monarch to the family and a trusted friend, entered into eternal rest on March 23rd, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was sixty-seven years old.
Born in June 1953 to Domingo Gomez and Antonia Medina, she was a Brownsville resident all her life, she enjoyed arts and crafts and created many pieces of art. Her family and friends were very important to her. She will be greatly missed.
In her recent career years, before her retiring, she was a para-professional in Egly Elementary with deaf students which she continued her education in learning sign language. Maria and her husband Francisco were very active in marriage counseling for Catholic Dioceses. She earned her Degree in Education from Texas State College.
At one time, she worked for City of Brownsville Public Library and in the Planning Department, she was a counselor for the Drug and Substance Abuse Program. She was also a Lector and a Eucharist Minister. She worked for a Homeless Shelter. She was an entrepreneur.
Maria Guadalupe is preceded in death by her parents; and left to cherish her loving memory is her husband Francisco Carlos Castillo; their daughter Maria Esmeralda Castillo, extended family members and a host of friends.
Services are as follows: visitation 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021 in the South Chapel of Treviño Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary 7 p.m. Visitation resumes from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021with a Funeral Mass scheduled at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 555 W. St. Francis Street in Brownsville, TX 78520 following a Graveside Service at 1 p.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery located at 2520 Inspiration Road in Mission, TX 78572 in Hidalgo County.
