Maria Elena Garza

Maria Elena Garza entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 17th, 2020 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of eighty years old. She was born to Juan Canul and Guadalupe Canul on June 23rd, 1940 in Brownsville, Texas.

She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  Her lifelong career and passion were not over when she raised her four children, she continued by helping to raise her grandkids Paola, Carla, Patricia, Natalia, Erica, Rodrigo and Javier.

She always wanted to be a teacher and she fulfilled this by teaching her grandkids. Her hobbies were reading while also dabbling in Soduku and word puzzles. She spent her teenage years in late 50’s in Brownsville where she fell in love and was married to Reynaldo Garza.

She lived a full life, complete with laughter, sorrow and victory.  As we gather today, although we will miss her physical presence in our lives, let us not just grieve, but also celebrate her life as it was fully lived.  As we talk and minister to each other, let us share our memories, as her spirit continues to live in all of us.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Juan and Guadalupe Canul and siblings; Irma, Victor, Melecio and Ruben Canul and is survived by her brother Juan Canul along with her loving husband of sixty years of matrimony Reynaldo Garza and their children; Norma Dorantes and her husband Rodrigo Dorantes, Ricardo Garza and his wife Teresa Garza, Veronica Cordova and her husband Miguel Angel Cordova and Reynaldo Garza Jr. and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Trevino Funeral Home. Visitation resumes from 8:15 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 with a chapel service scheduled 12 noon. Rite of committal will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Maria Elena Garza entró en reposo eterno el jueves, 17 de diciembre de 2020 en Brownsville, Texas, a la edad de ochenta años. Nació del matrimonio de Juan Canúl y Guadalupe Canúl el 23 de junio de 1940 en Brownsville, Texas.

Fué una gran hija, hermana, esposa, madre, abuela y amiga. Su carrera y pasión por la vida no terminaron cuando crió a sus cuatro hijos, ella continuó ayudando a criar a sus nietos Paola, Carla, Patricia, Natalia, Erica, Rodrigo y Javier.

Siempre quería ser maestra y lo cumplió enseñando a sus nietos. Sus pasatiempos siempre fueron la lectura de un buen libro y ocasionalmente le gustaba entretenerse con los crucigramas y los rompecabezas. Pasó sus años de adolescencia y a finales de los años 50 en la ciudad de Brownsville, se enamoró y se casó con Reynaldo Garza.

Vivió una vida completa,con temporadas de felicidad, risas, angustia y victoria. Al reunirnos hoy, aunque su presencia física no se encuentre en nuestras vidas, no estaremos tristes porque sabemos que vivió una vida ejemplar y nos deja un legado de fe a seguir para todos nosotros. Mientras pensamos en ella y nos ministramos unos a otros, compartiremos nuestros recuerdos, porque su espíritu continúara viviendo en todos nosotros.

Ella fué precedida en la muerte por sus padres; Juan y Guadalupe Canúl y hermanos; Irma, Victor, Melecio y Rubén Canúl, y es sobrevivida por su hermano Juan Canúl y su compañero y esposo de sesenta años de matrimonio Reynaldo Garza y sus hijos; Norma Dorantes y su esposo Rodrigo Dorantes, Ricardo Garza y su esposa Teresa Garza, Verónica Cordova y su esposo Miguel Angel Cordova y Reynaldo Garza Jr. y familiares.

La visita será de 2 p.m. a 8 p.m. el lunes, 21 de diciembre de 2020, con una recitación del Santo Rosario a las 7:00 p.m. en la Capilla de la Funeraria Treviño. Las visitas se reanudan de 8:15 a.m. a 12 del mediodía el martes, 22 de diciembre de 2020 con un servicio de capilla programado a las 12 del mediodía. El sepelio tendrá lugar en Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
