Maria de Jesus Nena Trevino, 94, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Brownsville, Texas. A native of Laredo, TX, she had been in Brownsville since 1960.
Nena as she was known was preceded in death by her husband, Agapito Trevino her parents, Antonio and Manuela Cantu siblings Elvira, Nicolas, Donaciano, Gilberto, Gustavo, Guadalupe and Aurora.
She is survived by her only child, Rosario Trevino.
Nena lived a long and fruitful life. She loved her garden and worked on it until her 80s. Bingo and chalupa were her favorite games. She and her family were among the families who founded St. Marys Catholic Church. One of the activities she participated in was the Altar Society. Lastly, she enjoyed TV especially reruns of western like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. But most of all, she loved Wheel of Fortune.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27,2012 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at St. Marys Catholic Church. As per her wishes, no graveside services will be held. Her wish was to be cremated.
A Thank you to the many who helped attend Nena during her illness. Among those are Hilda Yzaguirre, Matilde Garcia, HErminia Villarreal and Concepcion Avendano. A special thanks to the Heart Institute especially Dr. Kalim J. Habet who provided compassionate healthcare always keeping in mind her quality of life. Finally to Greater Valley Hospice who allowed Nena to have a peaceful and dignified end to her life.
