Manuel Pulido

November 1, 1932 — June 6, 2009

Manuel Pulido, 76, peacefully passed away and entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his home following a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Josefina Pulido, his only brother, Baltazar Pulido, a daughter, Mary Jane Martinez and daughter-in-law, Gertudes Tules Pulido.

Manuel was born November 1, 1932 in Brownsville, the son of Manuel and Josefa Pulido. A veteran, he served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army during the Korean War obtaining the rank of Sergeant. While in the military, he was also stationed in New York City for two years which explains his devoted following of the Yankees.

In 1955, he married Emma Esparza and for 54 years they shared their life together in Brownsville. Together they raised eleven children. Manuel was a tireless provider for his family. He held various jobs until settling in as a longshoreman at the Port of Brownsville where he eventually retired after 25 years due to an illness in 1992. Above all Manuel did whatever was needed to see that his family was safe and protected. Manuel did not have much of a formal education, having to drop out of school to support his family after the death of his father at a young age, but he was nonetheless an exceptional conversationalist on a wide range of subjects. He loved a good debate and always had opinions. A strong man who believed in fairness, Manuel stood up for what he believed in and didnt back away from conflict if he knew he was right.

While he was opinionated at times, he always saw the best in everyone, showing kindness to all and always taking the time to care about those in need. He faithfully cared for his wife after she suffered a stroke, even after he himself grew ill. In his later years, Manuel suffered from many illnesses and had to undergo kidney dialysis and cancer treatments but never complained about his situation and to his last day answered, Im fine to questions about his health. He always had time for everyone to listen to their stories and to help where he could. His life was one of generous, giving, and selfness sacrificing for his family. His wisdom, sense of humor and caring nature are a legacy he leaves to his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Manuel Pulido is survived by his wife, Emma, four sons, Manuel Idalia, Alfredo Bea, Armando Rose and Eduardo, six daughters, Josefina Virgilio Cienfuegos, Lydia Albert Lozano, Alicia Pulido, Evangelina Agustin Munoz, Rosalinda Wayne Meadows and Clara Pulido, eighteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren which he loved greatly. Thank you for being a part of our lives, we will dearly miss you.
