On January 18, 2017 Lydia Martha Lara, at the age of 91, died peacefully in her home.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and good friend. An amazing, hard- working, funny, intelligent, stubborn human being; who's soul is now free to run home and hug her mother and go dancing with her husband.
Lydia who was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas began working at the early age of 17 for the sisters of Mercy Hospital (now Valley Baptist) where the (nuns) helped train her to be an LVN; a career she would love for almost 59 years. After she retired at the age of 82, due to a hip injury, she worked for Happy Heart Adult Day Care, as a relief nurse. Later Lydia volunteered as a tutor for 1st graders at Destiny Christian Academy in Harlingen, where the staff and children valued and loved her deeply. She was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church and a devoted and cherished member of her Rosary Group; where she will be greatly missed.
