Lazern Otto Sorensen entered into eternal rest on February 23rd, 2021 at the age of 93.

In 1927, Lazern was born to Otto and Amy H. Sorensen in Boelus, Nebraska. He enjoyed many things during his life. Friendships were of utmost importance. Travel, walking the beach, admiring and collecting art pieces, along with loving dogs. He served in the Coast Guard as a radio operator in the Philippines during WWII. He received his Undergraduate Degree from Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska and also obtained a Masters and Doctorate Degree from University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1952. He taught in Pan American College in Edinburg, TX from 1956-1974 and the Dean of Science and Math from 1970-1974; Pan American Marine Lab in South Padre Island, TX from 1974-1982, Pan American University in Brownsville, TX from 1982-1991 and Dean of Academics Pan American in Brownsville, TX from 1986-1991. His career years were dedicated to helping college students: teaching Biology and also in Administration. He retired from his exemplary career. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Lazern was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wesley Sorensen and Leo Lyle Sorensen; his beloved wife Gretchen Beck Sorensen and is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Cindy Sorensen McCarn and Steven McCarn. Also, to treasure many memories are his grandchildren and their wives; Christian and Alana McCarn, from The Woodland, TX, Jeffery and Yoko McCarn from Amarillo, TX; great-grandchildren Matthew, Emily and Shawn McCarn.
