Julia Mancillas Flores, 96, of Brownsville died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Harlingen, Tx

Julia was born in Brownsville, Texas on April 12, 1925 to Fabian and Maria Guillén Mancillas. Her parents, brothers, Jesus, Martin, Fabian and her sister, Juana, who was like a mother to Julia, preceded her in death. Also, her loving husband Mariciano (Chano) Flores Jr.

Julia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her Catholic faith. Blessed with a life well lived, she was always ready for when the good Lord called her name.

A life-long resident of Brownsville, Julia graduated from Brownsville High School in 1944 and Brownsville Business College.

Julia dedicated her time to family, faith and church. She worked in various jobs and was known for her strong work ethic and excellent business management skills. After many years of loyal service, she retired as office manager in 1986 from the Goodyear and Rubber Company.

Julia also was active in many community and civic organizations. PTA, Band Booster President, President of Brownsville Fire Fighters women auxiliary, election poll clerk and was a licensed notary public for many years. She devoted her time, energy and established many friendships along the way.

The love of her life was her husband, Marciano (Chano) Flores Jr. When he returned from serving his country in World War II, they married and on December 29, 1946 they would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.

They were blessed with three daughters, Gloria M. Palmer, (Larry); Marsha L. Betancourt (Adolph) and Diana G. Schwartz (Charles).

Julia loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Mitch A. Palmer; Evelyn C Betancourt Martinez (Eddie); Adolfo "AB" Betancourt III (Marissa), Jordan R. Schwartz and her two great grandchildren, Elle Christine and Edison Edward Martinez. Julia is also survived by many nephews, nieces and friends she dearly loved.

Visitation will be held from Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 2pm to 9pm with the presentation of the holy rosary at 7pm in the chapel at Trevino Funeral Home, 1335 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville Texas.

A funeral mass will be on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Cathedral followed by burial at Funerary del Angel Buena Vista Burial Park, 125, McDavitt Blvd., Brownsville.

Services are under the guidance of Trevino Funeral Home, 1335 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville Texas.
