Josefina R. Castro, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her family, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025, in Brownsville, Texas, at the age of 94. Born on March 20, 1931, in Calaboz, Texas, Josefina lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a strong devotion to her family.

As a loving and caring individual, Josefina was known for her warm heart and her ability to listen intently. Her maternal nature and joyful spirit made her a source of comfort and support to everyone who knew her. She fought till the end, demonstrating a strength that will always be remembered by her loved ones.

Josefina is survived by her children: Maria Yolanda Cruz, Rolando (Elizabeth) Castro, Esmeralda (Jesus Raul) Cruz, Luis Carlos (Alma Leticia) Castro, and Norma Linda (Edgardo) Henríquez and son-in-law: Ramiro D. Castillo. She leaves behind a legacy of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who were all fortunate to experience her loving embrace.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan B. Castro, and her sons, Samuel Rodriguez and Juan Alberto Castro. Josefina was also preceded by her daughter, Maria del Rosario Castillo, as well as her parents, Anicetto Rodriguez and Maria Benavides.

Josefina’s pallbearers will be Ramiro Castillo Jr., Gary Henriquez, Abram Vela, Albert Castro, Albert Castro Jr., Alexander Castro and Honorary Pallbearer: Shayla Kay Cruz.

Josefina's life will be honored at Trevino Funeral Home-Old Port Isabel Rd., located at 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd., in Brownsville, Texas. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Friday, May 16, 2025, from 8:15 AM to 9:15 AM. A Mass will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, leading to her burial at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at 11:00 AM.

May Josefina rest in eternal peace, forever remembered for her love and strength that touched the lives of so many.

Josefina R. Castro, una querida matriarca y querido miembro de su familia, falleció pacíficamente el 13 de mayo de 2025 en Brownsville, Texas, a la edad de 94 años. Nacida el 20 de marzo de 1931 en Calaboz, Texas, Josefina vivió una vida llena de amor, risas y una fuerte devoción por su familia.

Como persona cariñosa y cariñosa, Josefina era conocida por su cálido corazón y su capacidad para escuchar atentamente. Su naturaleza maternal y su espíritu alegre la convirtieron en una fuente de consuelo y apoyo para todos los que la conocieron. La vida de Josefina será honrada en la Funeraria Treviño-Old Port Isabel Rd., ubicada en 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd., en Brownsville, Texas. La visitación tendrá lugar el jueves 15 de mayo de 2025, de 14:00 a 21:00 horas, con el rezo del Santo Rosario a las 19:00 horas. La visitación continuará el viernes 16 de mayo de 2025, de 8:15 a 9:15 horas. Se llevará a cabo una misa el viernes 16 de mayo de 2025 a las 10:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, que culminará con su entierro en Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens a las 11:00 a.m.
