Jose Guadalupe Lopez, age 70, and lifelong resident of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2014.
Funeral Services will be held at Trevinos Funeral Home on October 30, 2014 at 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary 7:00 p.m. A chapel service is scheduled 10 a.m. at Trevio Funeral Home North Chapel. Services will then conclude.
Jose Guadalupe Lupe Lopez was born in Brownsville, Texas to Refugio Lopez and Maria Guajardo Lopez on August 26, 1944. He grew up understanding the meaning of hard work and the struggle of poverty with eight other siblings. He was a 1964 graduate of Brownsville High School and went on to study at then Texas AI Kingsville. In 1967 he joined the United States Marine Corps, deployed worldwide, ultimately serving his country in the Vietnam War. He was a decorated combat veteran and was honorably discharged in 1969.
After the war he worked several jobs until he found his calling in the finance industry. He worked for numerous years for several Brownsville banks and was able to work his way up to Assistant Vice President of the former Brownsville National Bank.
Despite his longtime struggle as a disabled American veteran, he was a giving and loving father and husband and actively dedicated his time to helping disabled veterans like him.
He loved watching football, war movies and westerns, and not only did he love his wifes cooking, but also enjoyed dining and supporting local restaurants and cafes. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to get as much education as possible so they too would be able to nurture family and help others. He will be remembered as an outspoken tell it like it is person and will forever be loved and remembered by his family and those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maria Teresa Terry, his sons Jaime and wife Terry of Brownsville, Texas and Jose and wife Cindy of Alexandria, Virginia and by four grandchildren Vanessa, Cristian, Luke, and Leo, his brothers Rey and Raul and sister Amelia plus numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his only daughter Laura Stella Lopez, his parents Refugio and Maria, his brothers Robert and Ramon and sisters Juanita, Refugia, and Eustolia.
