Jose E. Gutierrez, 78, of Port Isabel, TX entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville.
He was a Sgt. in the U. S. Army Korean War Veteran Tank Commander, 1st Army Division 64 Tank Battalion attached to 3rd Infantry Division having received military decorations such as the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars UN Service Medal and National Defense service medal. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church, VFW, and the American Legion of Port Isabel.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Enisofora Echavarria and father, Jose Gutierrez.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Guadalupe Gutierrez of Port Isabel, TX, children, Patricia Davis of Brownsville, TX, Joey Gutierrez of Port Isabel, TX, Nina Aguilar of Laguna Vista, TX, and Gabriel Ali Gutierrez of Edinburg, TX, sister, Carmen Alfonso Raffta of Sylmar, CA, brother, Raul Martha Gutierrez of Brownsville, TX, grandchildren, Gabriel Elijah Teresa Gutierrez, Dymphna J. Joe Canales, Joshua D. Davis, Luis D. Aguilar, Jeremy J. Davis, Jordan T. Davis, Sarah Gutierrez, and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2008 with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Funeral mass was held at 10 am on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery. Full military honors were conducted by the VFW Post 2035.
Pallbearers will be Luis Daniel Aguilar, Gabriel E. Gutierrez, Joshua D. Davis, Jeremy J. Davis, Jordan T. Davis, and Luis Guevara Jr.
