John Campbell

John Nelson Campbell, 83, passed away on Wednesday January 25, 2012 at his home.

He was preceded by his parents, John Nelson Campbell Sr and Loretta Shields Campbell and his sister, Marian.

He is survived by his wife, Doris sons, John Deborah and Scot Kathleen two grandsons, Benjamin and Robert a brother Robert Lynn and nieces and nephews.

John was born in Fairmont, MN September 5, 1928. He graduated from Fairmont High School and the University of Minnesota. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 20, 1954 he married Doris Hinz of Zumbrota, MN. They lived near Fort Lewis, WA.

After his honorable discharge he worked for Farmers Home Administration. He continued his career, working 31 years for the State of Minnesota as an Agricultural Inspector. During that time, the family lived in Red Lake Falls, MN. While there he was a Jaycee member, Boy Scout Leader, Board Chairman of Fairview Manor and enjoyed acting and set building with Red Lake Falls Community Theater.

John was an active member of his church until his illness. He served as usher, council member treasurer and Sunday School teacher. You could also find him running the dishwasher. He was a member of Lions and American Legion Clubs. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading, camping and traveling.

In 1994 the couple moved to Zumbrota, MN. Winters were spent in Brownsville, TX until 2008 when they became yearlong Texas residents.

He was a kind and loving husband and father. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday February 18, 2012 at Winter Haven Resort.
