Joel Rodriguez, 80, of Brownsville, Texas, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle went to be with the Lord December 8, 2015 with his daughter by his side at Sunshine Haven.
Joel was born in Rio Grande City on December 29,1934. He went on to live in Mission, Texas and would leave home in his young adulthood to serve in the US Army 1st Cavalry division. He later moved to Brownsville after meeting the love of his life Maria. He went on to work for Firestone from which he retired after 23 years of service. He returned to the workforce and later retired a second time from AutoZone. Joel enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on crossword puzzles. He was a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys. But, by far, what he was most proud of and cherished, was spending time with his grandchildren.
He attended Brownsville Community Fellowship Church where he was loved by many and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized and became a born again Christian on December 29, 2013.
Mr. Joel Rodriguez was preceded in death by his wife Maria De Jesus Rodriguez, parents, Carlos Rodriguez Sr. and Dolores C. Rodriguez, sisters, Alicia Rodriguez, Yolanda Rodriguez, brothers, Lionel Rodriguez, Carlos Rodriguez, and Erasmo Rodriguez.
He is survived by his daughter, Leticia R. Cantu (Jimmy), grandchildren Karissa and Jimmy Cantu II, sisters, Gloria R. Hernandez, Susie R. De Priest, Dora Rodriguez, Sylvia R. Porter, brother, Rene Rodriguez Sr. and numerous nephews and nieces.
Serving as Pall Bearers will be Jimmy Cantu, Jimmy Cantu II, Ricardo Rodriguez, Rene Rodriguez Jr., John M. Rodriguez, and Michael Rodriguez.
The Cantu family would like to express our most sincere thanks to Community Pharmacy, Med Team Home Health and Sunshine Haven for their contribution in the care of our loved one. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Cecilia Vasquez, his dedicated and loving provider for the last 5 years.
The Cantu and Rodriguez families will be receiving family and friends on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. with a service at 7:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home.
Chapel Service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial service at Buena Vista Burial Park with Military Honors conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2035.
