Joe Trevino

Joe I. Treviño, 88, passed away with his family at his side, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his residence. He was a direct descendent of a South Texas Spanish pioneer family and a lifelong resident of Brownsville.
Joe worked in the downtown Brownsville movie theater business for many years. He worked his way up from being a popcorn boy at the Queen Theater to assistant manager of the Capitol Theater and later the manager of the Majestic Theater.
Joe is best known for the many years he dedicated to the funeral profession in Brownsville. He built, owned and operated the Treviño Funeral Home in Brownsville until 1989 when he sold the funeral home for health reasons.
After surviving a battle with stomach cancer, he went back into the funeral business. He purchased the Garza Memorial Funeral Home which he owned and operated until his retirement at the tender age of 85.
Joe loved his Brownsville community and was active in several local service organizations. In his spare time, he loved to play golf.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Kidder Treviño and Manuela Coronado Treviño, a brother Daniel K. Treviño, Jr. and a sister, Ofelia Paz.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Irma G. Treviño, daughters: Sandra Suffel and Gloria (Joey) Davila, sons: Oscar Omar Treviño and Beto (Dolores) Treviño, grandchildren: Jaclyn Suffel , Jaden Davila, and Deidra Graham a sister: Mari Bobo, brothers: Adan Treviño and Frank Salinas and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home and Cremation, 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd. Brownsville, Texas, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. A service celebrating Joe's life will be held Monday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana, 616 E. Jefferson St., Brownsville, TX 78521. Private graveside services will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an organization that was very close to Joe's heart, the Boys & Girls Club of Brownsville, Inc. 1338 E.8th Street, Brownsville, TX 78521 or National Down Syndrome Congress, 30 Mansell Court, Suite 108, Roswell, GA 30076.
