Jesse Champion

Jesse Champion, 88, entered into eternal life on July 12, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Champion, and son, Jerry Champion.

He is survived by his wife, A. Carol Champion, sons Glen Champion Claudia of Brownsville Texas, Ron Champion of Tequesta, Florida, daughter Cherlyn Navarre Greg of Houston Texas, Granddaughter, Jessica Champion, dear friend, Troy Harvey of Tequesta , Florida, Grandsons, Brian, Amanda and great grandson Gabriel Lipscomb of Clute, Texas, and Brad Lipscomb of Anchorage, Alaska.

Descendant of the pioneer Champion Family that arrived in Point Isabel in the 1840s, Jesse spent many of his days sharing his favorite past time with his sons and daughter fishing in the Laguna Madre waters. His great thrill was hunting season each fall where he instilled a lifetime of love with his family to observe and listen to nature. He enjoyed traveling including fishing trips to Alaska with his grandsons. He will be warmly remembered for his great story-telling skills, keeping his children and grandchildren entertained with stories of growing up in the Valley, wildlife adventures and his observations on life.

As a young man of 18, Jesse and his cousin Jimmy joined the Marine Corps and proudly served his country in World War II engaged in the Pacific Theater as a rifleman. At the end of his combat tour he met the love of his life A. Carol Dasch of Cincinnati, Ohio who also joined the Marine Corps and was stationed Santa Barbara Marine Base. At the conclusion of the war Jesse brought Carol to enjoy a wonderful life together in the Rio Grande Valley for over 64 years.

Jesse proudly served the residents of Edinburg, Texas as a City Commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem in the early 1950s.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 with Funeral Services at 6p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Gilbert Borjas officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at the Funeral Home Chapel... Cremation will follow.
