Irma G. Treviño, 90, went peacefully in her sleep to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, December 15, 2018. She was a very loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She saw something to love in everyone she met.
Irma was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. She attended Brownsville High School and Brownsville Junior College. After graduation, she taught first and second grade at Villa Nueva Elementary School.
Later, she worked for Doctors Leon Keeble and Lee Dale Jones in their family practice for the next 26 years. She continued to serve our community working hand-in-hand with her husband, Joe I. Treviño, establishing the Treviño Funeral Home on 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd.
Later, they owned and operated the Garza Memorial Funeral Home on East Jackson Street which was founded by Irma's father Marcelo Garza in 1915. Irma and Joe retired from the funeral business in 2011, having worked happily together well into their 80's.
Irma was a very dedicated lifelong member of Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana of Brownsville. She often referred to her church as her second family. She loved singing in the church choir which she did for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Sociedad Femenil Elizabeth Women's Ministries group where she enjoyed ministering to the women at several jails and detention centers in our area.
Irma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Joe I. Treviño, parents, Marcelo Garza and Virginia Moya Garza; sisters, Virginia Alonso, Raquel Rodríguez; brothers, Salvador Garza, Eleno Garza, and Dr. Marc Garza.
Irma is survived by daughters, Sandra Suffel and Gloria (Joey) Dávila; sons, Oscar Omar Treviño and Beto (Dolores) Treviño; grandchildren, Jaclyn Suffel, Deidra Graham, and Jaden Dávila; great grandson, Darío Eduardo Olivares and many cousins, nephews, and nieces whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 17, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Treviño Funeral Home, 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd., Brownsville, Texas, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana, 616 E. Jefferson St. Brownsville, Texas 78520. Private graveside services will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Primera Iglesia Presbiteriana Mexicana, 616 E. Jefferson St. Brownsville, Texas 78520.
