Humberto Jaime Cruz , 60, passed away on Saturday October 9, 2010 in Brownsville, Texas.

Mr . Cruz grew up in Brownsville, born June 17, 1950 in McAllen, TX, to Ruperto and Aurora Cruz. Jaime graduated from Texas AI with a BA in History. After graduation, he moved to California where he worked for a number of years and continued his graduate History studies while living in Santa Barbara and then San Francisco before returning to Brownsville to be a Teacher. Jaime was a good man a man who loved life, history , mostly: all of us. A proud and supportive father, both of his Daughters are college graduates and have entered professional careers. As a committed believer in education, Jaime was the first of his family to become a college graduate. Mr. Cruz was a student of the world and he was a formidable Teacher. As a devoted Educator, he recognized that his students, no matter the life issues with which they might be confronted, are capable of excellence, he was a true tiller in the fields, uplifting the most challenged in our society he achieved the resurrection of many otherwise thrownaway young persons by directly communicating with them and by building upon the innate talents and beauty he found within his students. Jaime was a passionate student of History, always honoring his Hispanic heritage, its History and the importance of his People he found his calling teaching high school when he returned to Brownsville. He is loved by his family, his extended family, his friends and most of the precious students to whom he devoted his life. Jaime also had a great love of music and the beach, surfing until the last years of his life. The far too early passing of Humberto Jaime Cruz is a loss for Humanity, for caring people everywhere and for the love of all humanity. A littlerecognized giant has fallen and we have lost an earthly Angel. He is, and will continue to be, greatly loved and missed. We shall not forget this wonderful man who enriched so many lives.
He is survived by his daughters, Crystal and Bianca and his grandchildren, Michael and Danielle.
