This Obituary serves to announce to all friends, family, and colleagues of the passing of our beloved sister, Hortencia Corina Medrano, age 68. She was born in Brownsville, Texas on December 3, 1954. Hortencia's spirit and soul departed her body on Sunday, July 23, 2023. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." II Cor. 5-8.

Hortencia was predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Herminia Medrano, beloved nephew, Oscar Medrano, and beloved niece, Raquel Arreola. She is survived by her sister, Gloria Medrano and brother, Oscar Medrano.

Hortencia was employed as a social worker in various state agencies in Brownsville and Harlingen for 18 years. She later worked for Brownsville ISD at Lincoln Park School and BISD Boot Camp as a social worker until her retirement in May 2020.

Her favorite things to do were to sew her own wardrobe, decorate her home and cook, especially during the holidays.

She loved entertaining family and friends during football season. She was a kindhearted and generous person with a bursting laughter and always optimistic. She will be greatly missed, not only by her brother and sister, but by those whose lives she touched through her giving spirit.
