Gloria Trevino (née Solis) died on February 3, 2017 in Brownsville, TX. She was 85.
Gloria was born on October 5, 1931 in Brownsville, TX to parents, Fidencio and Refugia Solis. She met her future husband while working at a small shoe store in downtown Brownsville. She married Osvaldo Trevino and started her family. Ten years later, Osvaldo's employer, Pan American Airways, shut down operations in Brownsville and the family moved to New York. She raised her eight children in the Long Island suburb of Bay Shore. In 1974, retirement brought the Trevino family back to Texas. It was Gloria's wish always to return to her beloved hometown. She continued raising her children, reconnected with her extended family here in the valley and pursued her favorite pastimes of cooking (she held an annual Christmas Tamale-Fest in her kitchen), fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys, her team.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years and her infant daughter, Dolores. Gloria is survived by her children: Maggie Boyd, Wally (Jean) Trevino, Maria Galasso, Ovidio (Rosie) Trevino, Oscar (Sylvia) Trevino, Minnie (Robert) Longoria, Martha Hernandez, Melinda (Mike) Magdaleno; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Esperanza Ybarra, Angelita Moran, Dionicio Solis, Faustina Gonzales, Johnny Solis and Susana Colunga.
Visitation will be held on Sunday Feb. 5 from 2:00pm - 9:00 pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm in the South Chapel of Trevino Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be at 10 am on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Immediately following, Gloria will be buried at a graveside ceremony in Los Indios at Las Russias Cemetery.
