Gilberto Linares, Sr., 79, a life long resident of Brownsville, TX, entered into eternal life on September 8, 2009 at Valley Regional Medical Center.
He served with the 2nd Armored Division 2 years and served 12 years in active reserve with the rank of MSgt. He was also retired as a manager in retail and wholesale meats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Emmanuel Linares and Refugia Davila, and siblings, Raul, Reynaldo and Ofelia.
He is survived by his wife; Olga S. Linares of Brownsville, TX, daughters; Sylvia Cancino of Brownsville, TX, Norma Garza of Marshall, TX, Diana Linares and Lillian Ruth Vela both of Brownsville, TX, sons; Gilbert Linares, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and David W. Hernandez of Brownsville, TX, 3 stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, brothers Alfredo Linares of Brownsville, TX and Manuel Linares of Kentucky.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 9 p.m. with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2009 at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of you choice.
