Arturo Alberto Gonzalez died Monday February 7, 2022, in his home at the age of 78. He was born in Port Isabel, Texas in 1943 to the late Guadalupe Juan and Juanita (Ramirez) Gonzalez. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and served during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge in 1972. He enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, following the PI Tarpons, reading the Herald, and traveling. During his time at the Chamber of Commerce, his outgoing personality and sense of humor caught the attention of many, but it was his patriotism and love for his country that always shined through.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Gonzalo Gonzalez (WWII Veteran), Esther LaBove, Eva Garza, Rene Gonzalez, Santiago (Jimmy) Gonzalez (Korean War Veteran), Guadalupe (Lupe) Gonzalez, Miguel (Mike) Gonzalez (WWII Veteran), Angel (Angelo) Gonzalez.
He is survived by his children Albert, Gabriel, Stephanie (Rigo) and his grandchild, Aidan. His surviving siblings include Catarina Hanna and Gloria (Don) Hagy.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Visitation will resume at 8:15 am to 11 am on Thursday, February 17, 2022, Chapel Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Rite of committal will follow at Rio Grande Veterans Cemetery.
