Antonio "Tony" S. Martinez, 89, of Brownsville entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
Tony was born in Raymondville, Texas. He attended and graduated from Raymondville High school. He enlisted in the armed forces at the age of 16 in the United States Army and served in combat in WWII and the Korean Conflict and he received several decorations from WWII and Korea. After serving his country, he attended the University of Texas in Austin and Texas A&I University of Kingsville. He received a Masters of Science in Industrial Arts. Tony enjoyed woodworking, horticulture, tree landscape, photography, agriculture, horse training, history, innovating inventing, target shooting, hunting, mechanics, culinary arts, boxing, watching the Dallas Cowboys play , making new friends and was a Jack of all trades. Tony was employed with the BISD as a teacher for 38 years and retired in 1992.
Tony leaves behind his loving wife and friend of 58 years, Regina Armendariz Martinez; son, Rene Antonio Martinez ( Norma Alicia); daughter, Melba Iris Martinez; grandchildren ,Marco , Matthew, Iris, Angelica, Bianca, Jayden; his brothers, Ricardo Martinez and Raul Martinez; sister, Rosie Rendon(Ricardo) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Zacarias and Anita S. Martinez; siblings, Jesus, Oscar, Eligio,Gilberto, Rodolfo, Johnny, Carmen and Eustolia.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 with Military Honors conducted by the VFW Post 2035 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m at Treviño Funeral Home and Cremations, located at 1355 Old Port Isabel Rd. in Brownsville, TX.
