Papa Tony Antonio Abete Sr, 77, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, entered onto the glory of his eternal life on May 7, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
Tony a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville enjoyed fishing, yard work and watching warwestern movies. He was an Air Force Veteran having proudly served his country during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for 11 years. He was a projector movie operator at the Charro Drive Theater and The Fiesta Theater. He was employed by Motorola of Matamoros, Mexico and retired in 1996.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Sulema Sue Guerrero Abete and his four children Antonio Abete Jr.Leticia Benbrook, Texas, Ana HammarJohn Double Oak Texas, Arnoldo Abete Brownsville, Texas, and Amanda Ann Torres Rey San Benito, Texas. Also surviving Papa Tony are his five grandchildren Roberto Carlos Abete, Reynaldo Antonio Torres, John Hammar, Robert Hammar, Rhianha Reigh Torres. Also surviving Antonio are his two brothers Ramon and Jesus Abete of Brownsville, Texas.
Step grandchildren: Jason Hammar, Erik Hammar, Xenos Garcia.
Antonio was preceeded in death by his father Eduardo Abete Sr. and mother Maria D. Abete, brothers Jose, Eduardo, Guadalupe Abete and sister Martha Chavez.
Viewing will be from 10a.m. to 9pm on May 11, 2009 at Trevino Funeral Home Chapel with Rosary Service at 7p.m. A Chapel Service will be held at 10 am. Tuesday May 12, 2009 at Trevino Funeral Home. Committal Service will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Military Honors will be conducted at the grave site by the American Legion Post 43 under the direction of Post Commander Raul J. Leal Jr. We wish to send our special thanks to the staff at Valley Regional Medical Center, Deacon Paul McArdle and Sister Esther Rodriguez.
