Anita S. Mendieta ("Oma "as she's known), 91, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on December 25, 2016 in Brownsville, Texas.
Anita, birth name of Elizabeth Ana Ida Sziel, was born on September 20, 1925 in Mainz, Germany, to her loving parents Karl Sziel and Elizabeth Ziegler. She was a resident of Brownsville, Texas since 1948 when she married her late husband Francisco Mendieta and moved to LaTina, Texas.
Left behind to eternally treasure memories of Anita are her beloved children: Rosita (Johnny, Sr.) Reyna, Gertrude (Emilio) Lara, James (Maggie) Mendieta, Mildred (Eddie) Jeffries, Lupita (Barry) Slaughter, Elizabeth (Arturo) Medina, Joyce (Donald) Wade and Sandra Mendieta (Eddie). Also to cherish many memories are her twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Mendieta; her son, Lee Roy Mendieta; her parents Karl and Elizabeth Sziel, of Germany, and three brothers Paul Sziel, Ewald Sziel, and Fritz Sziel of Germany and her grandson Jacob Tovar.
The Mendieta Family wish to sincerely thank all of the staff at Valley Home Health Care, especially Odi, Urania, and Carmen; caregivers Sandra Garces and Martha Ezekiel; Dr. Paul Lenz for his kind and compassionate care and Dr. Ahmad Karkoutly who graciously tended to Anita S. Mendieta till the end; Safe Haven Hospice Staff and The Rio at Foxhollow Staff.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in the South Chapel of Trevino Funeral Home. Services will conclude; as per Anita's wishes, she will be cremated.
