Albert Davila Jr. 89 passed away October 16, 2011 at Valley Regional Hospital. He is preceeded in death by his father Albert Davila Sr., his mother Aurora Guerra Davila, and his brother Russell Davila. He is survived by his wife Juanita Strain Davila, his son Russell F. Davila, his daughter Susan Davila Till, his granddaughter Shelly Till Ellis, his grandson Doctor Sam Davila, his grandson Josh Davila, his sister Edna Mae Davila Perez, and his brother John Davila. He attended and graduated from Saint Joseph Academy. As a child and teenager, he hung around Fort Brown Army Base, and did odd jobs in the mess hall and other places. He once said, that he was a soldier before he really new what a soldier is. When World War II started, he joined the Army Air Corps. He served in the African and European theaters. He was promoted to master sergeant. He received various medals and commendations. He also received the Soldiers Medal for heroism. Just before leaving for Africa, he married Juanita Strain Davila. After World War II, he moved back to Brownsville.
Later he, his wife, and son moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and he worked at International Harvester Mfg. Co. Around 1951 now with wife, son, and daughter, he moved back to Brownsville, and he worked for Pan American Airways for a number of years. He saved his money, and went into business for himself. For more than twenty years, he, wife, and family owned and operated Johns Package Store and Davicos Ice House. During his retirement years, he owned a few apartment rentals, lived on investments, and basically did as he pleased. His body will be cremated, and there will be no immediate services.
